Halloween Crafts: Getting in the Spirit with Ria Faust

Today's blog post is by my cousin Ate Ria, who lives halfway across the globe. Yes, folks, crafting DOES run in our blood. :) Being the eldest cousin in my mom's side, Ate Ria influenced us with her artsy ways. From sewing her own prom dress, to scrapbooking her photo albums, to planning themed parties, she was, and is, our family's ultimate crafty idol. Like I always say, I can't even begin to imagine the things we could do if all of us cousins lived in the same city. Meet Ria and read all about her crafty halloween!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ria is a marketing consultant by trade, graphic designer, party planner for friends and family, and world traveler. She likes crafting with felt to make crowns, hats, and party decoration. She lives in the San Francisco bay area with husband Marcus and 9-month old daughter Amelia.

Getting in the Spirit

It's Amelia's first Halloween, plus her cousin Winter is visiting from Seattle. That's enough of an excuse for a Halloween party for us!

First, the couture du jour. My little frequent flier dressed as a pilot for her namesake Amelia Earhart this year. The pilot cap and goggles were from Etsy (knitting is not a skill on my mommy resume), while the aviator jacket was made by hand--mine (sewing IS on the mommy resume).Amelia is too young to fly by herself, so Cool Bear was recruited as copilot. (His name is attributed to the fact that he is too cool to smile.) And since every pilot must have her own aircraft, I built the Golden Goose Airstreamer with silver and neon pink accents. The propeller really spins!
10-month old cousin Winter is the cutest, littlest pumpkin in the patch.
Spookiness spilled onto a few areas of the house. Our pet zebra in the entry hall got festive with a mask and greeted everyone with welcome bats.
The usual artwork above the fireplace was swapped for spooky faces that I drew on Illustrator and printed on card stock.
The TREAT.
Dead man’s fingers crudité and Sprinkles pumpkin cupcake quoth the raven, “Nevermore.”
Upside down witch cakes.
Ghost chips and ghoul dip.Spooky Spirits mystery flavor tastes like tangerine. Curiosity Cola tastes like satisfaction. Pumpkin Ale for the guys, because we are thoughtful and it matched our theme. Haha.

The TRICK.Instead of candy we gave our little trick-or-treaters Halloween books, which my sister Rizza mummified and displayed on the bookshelf.
Boo bye!

Happy Halloween, everyone!:)

Wedding Crafts: Nins & Cassie's Beach Ceremony

PJ and I spent the past long weekend in Davao for our friends Cassie and Niño's beach wedding.
PJ was a groomsman, while I helped the couple out by doing some crafts for their reception.
I asked for some leftover wood from the Pino construction from our designer/friend Paolo (who was also a groomsman at the wedding!) and used them for directional signs.
I used black acrylic paint on wood with a giant round brush for this.

Back in Manila, I watercolored a map & programme, which I sent to their friend and supercoordinator, JV, who had them printed, cut, and folded.
For their photo wall, PJ and I painted on burlap, and I hung it in between two coconut trees.
Strung the couples' photos over the guest book area. And my old, yet freshly ribbon-inked typewriter saw the sun after a really long time.

Used leftover black acrylic paint on wooden frames to make these L-O-V-E chalkboard letters.
At the ceremony, they gave away these lovely hats and fedoras, in case it got too hot. PJ painted this sign below. Weather was gloomy but cooperating, until the actual ceremony when it started to rain! But on they marched......and though the drizzle dared to dampen the event, it did not win over Cassie's bridal glow. :)
Haha! :P
I screenprinted totebags (all 110 of them) and made tags for them as well.
Thanks to CraftMNL for burning my screen!
Beautiful wedding for a beautiful couple.
Congrats and best wishes to the new Mr. & Mrs. Niño Laus!
:)

Stamped: Isaiah's Power Rangers Birthday

My sister-in-law Olive asked me to design my nephew Isaiah's birthday party invitations. And because the little kid is a PowerRangers addict, I just knew I had to design something along that theme.
I carved out rubber stamps of the PowerRangers heads, and designed a stamp with the logo's lightning bolt in Isaiah's name. Used sturdy kraft board stock (you can get at Papemelroti), and stamped using Artline pads & ink, except for the yellow and pink, where I used watercolor ink. After designing the invites, I wrapped the stamps in a box and gifted them all to him!
And then I asked our friend, the super talented Gel Colet of SwellSweets to make a birthday cake in line with the theme. My bro-in-law Ruben said that Isaiah was so amazed when he saw the cake!
Now THAT's how you make a 4-year old super happy on his birthday! :P
We love you, Isaiah! :)

Crafty30 BirthdayParty + ShabuShabuChic Dinner

To be honest, I was terrified of turning a year older this year. I can't believe I'm not in my twenties anymore! WAAAH! I want to cry. (Not kidding.) I want to be forever 24. (Still not kidding.) So when I was planning my birthday party, I knew I had to make it superfun to distract me from the fact that I was turning 30. And since I was also celebrating my blog's first year anniv in the internets, of course, I had to do some cool craft activity!

I invited fellow craft bloggers to join me for lunch + crafternoon at the newly opened Burger Project in Jupiter Street, Makati. It was my first time to meet some of them in person, but if you've followed the craft soiree and other crafternoons, you'll see many familiar faces.

PJ's chalk art in our 3rd Burger Project Branch!Mansy and her giant burger.

Yay, crafters! :)
Thanks to Peej for taking all the photos!
My nephew Kai came with a box of carrot cupcakes for me!
My only photos of Em and Dar...nakatalikod pa! Hehe sorry!

After lunch, we began with some announcements.....and I presented my newest collaboration with Anthill Fabric Gallery and Carabao Crafts! Will post more details later on how you can pre-order your own pair of handwoven & handmade brogues, backpacks, bags, belts, and bracelets! Notice, they all start with a B? Because B is for Breakfast, my favorite meal of the day! :P

Then we proceeded to crafting! The task of the day was to design two canvas totes: one that we would exchange with each other, and the other will be used to raise funds for classroom chairs for a school in Masbate. The crafters knew about this activity and came with their own appliques and art materials.
Lorraine and Reg of MyMarquee.ph also joined us for the crafternoon! Our littlest crafter, Kai finished his totebag before everyone else. Sigh. Don't you envy the artistic mind of a four-year-old, where creative blocks do not exist?
I painted my own tote for the exchange, too!

And then Noelle, Clems and I went outside to spray dye our 2nd totes.
Added white birds on mine when it was dry.
Drea, Allie and Koko.
Sharpies on canvas... fun!

Thank you to everyone who came to the party! Thanks for dropping by, Muffin, and to Clems and Jas for helping me during the party.

What's great about having a craft party is that all your guests are super creative, and you get loads of cool crafty gifts! Got amazing birthday loot this year. Thank you!! :)
After the crafternoon, we headed to dinner with my family and best friends.
